Today, the quest is more urgent than ever to universally lower global air emissions from coal.
Arterran Renewables has developed and proven a very cost-effective means to convert and densify various forms of cellulosic biomass into a water resistant(hydrophobic) pellet fuel.
The Arterran Fuel represents the long awaited third-generation drop-in fuel solution for thermal coal fired steam boilers.
“Drop-in” refers to energy content, size, weight, grindability, weather resistance and chemical stability when compared to thermal coal. It is a water-resistant product that eliminates the need for costly covered transport and storage. A water-resistant or hydrophobic pellet is commonly referred to as a ‘black’ pellet. The estimated savings are ~25% of the cost of white wood pellets.
The Arterran product is produced in a proprietary process that limits the ability of the finished pellet to absorb water, hence transport and storage can be simplified and at a much lower cost than a white pellet fuel.
The Arterran Fuel has an energy density equal to coal which will further lower transport costs because each tonne of Arterran solid pellets has 41% more energy content than the standard wood pellets available today.
As current technology does not provide a viable, renewable fuel for the world’s coal fired facilities to adopt without modifications, Arterran’s fuel provides the ability to simply switch these facilities from the world’s # 1 climate problem to the world’s #1 climate solution.
